Great news for the Townsend Memorial Hall!
The TMH Committee (Trustees) have just had notification from WREN Recycling Environmental Ltd that they have been successful with their application for a grant to refurbish the downstairs kitchen and back hall.
The Hall is one of our village treasures and used mostly non-stop by most village residents and those form further afield at one time or another, but its age demands constant repair and refurbishment. A survey of some 800 users was carried out last year and almost all of the results indicated the need to update the downstairs kitchen and bring it up to modern day standards of hygiene and now, thanks to WREN, this is going to happen.
When the work is completed not only will the kitchen provide for a much wider usage and more extensive food provision, but will be one of the largest improvements to the hall over recent years.
WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community conservation and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities fund and has generated over £200m to more than 7,000 projects since 1998, which benefit people living within 10 miles of a landfill site.
