During the evening of Wednesday 17 August a small band of travellers made camp on Clifton upon Dunsmore playing field.
The Chair and Vice Chair met with police late that night and ascertained that, as the travellers had not damaged anything when they had broken into the field (they removed the gate from its hinges), the Parish Council will have to go through due process to arrange their removal.
An attempt to block the field was made to ensure that no further travellers were able to camp there, but councillors were asked to remove this to allow emergency exit and entrance into the field as there is a pregnant female in the group.
Borough Councillor Leigh Hunt is also aware and will work in partnership with the Parish Council to ensure a speedy return to the status quo.
An update on the situation will be issued in due course.
